Yesterday was a special day, I got to combine my love of birds and nature and weddings when I went to meet Georgina and Gareth who own a lovely new venue, Kinghill Barn at Elmley Nature Reserve on the Isle of Sheppey. When you arrive your eye is drawn down the track to the horizon where marshes and the sky meet. I was early and so I had time to meander and observe as I drove down the 2 mile route and straight away I could see birds and sheep everywhere. There is something immediately calming and freeing about the landscape and it was a joy to see a heron, lapwings, stonechat and coots on my way to the barn. It was great to hear about how flexible the space is at the barn and Georgina told me that they have an amazing glamping village available to install so guests can stay on site after your wedding! Couple this with the rather epic Shepherds Huts as a honeymoon suite and they have a completely unique and quirky barn offer for couples. I admired Georgina’s enthusiasm and excitement for their venue and while we were chatting away, we realised our paths may have crossed before as we graduated from Sheffield Uni in the same year – it is such a small world! We set off in wellies for the grand tour and I think I said wow a little too much, but even on a grey day the whole place is full of wow. Its really exciting to be recommended by them and I really can’t wait to capture a wedding day here. In the meantime, I am eyeballing my calendar to work out when we can book in a cheeky staycation full of birds and freedom from sunrise to sunset!
