This week has been a great week, lots of exciting opportunities bubbling away and I’ve been stepping back in time and buying some film paraphernalia! I went a bit mad on Monday. I’ve been resisting a trip to the Lomography store and then it happened. Really, really happened! More about that later. Anyways, one of my lovely brides asked me about Polaroid 600 films this week as they have an old camera they are wanting to use and I started looking at instant cameras and couldn’t live without one. Today was free from any commitments which is rare, so we were enjoying a schnooozey start to the day and the postman rang the door at 8am. I legged it down only to find that the FujiFilm Instax Mini 7s camera and films had arrived!! So, today turned into analogue day and I’m ironically working on digitising the images to share online…..
I love this camera already – quelle surprise?! It takes me back to my childhood at my Grimmy & Granddads, he had a polaroid and I remember jostling and elbowing my cousins to get a go on the camera. I can hear the shrieks and squeals when a picture was taken and we waited impatiently for the development process to magically take place in front of our eyes. It is amazing how photography connects us to our past be it looking at photos or remembering how it felt taking them.
What I love about this camera and the size of the prints is that they are credit card sized, perfect to pop into your purse or wallet and that is exactly where the one of me and my boys is! After we’d had brekkie, we headed over to Broadstairs to try out the camera outside….gosh that sounds sooooo sad!! Ha! This one of the pier at Viking Bay has got my heart a’fluttering.
We stopped in at Morellis for a coffee – boy was it cold out today. They said a cold snap was coming and they were not wrong! I love how the flash highlights areas of the image, even too much, but it looks like I stepped back into my childhood. My childhood looks like this in print when I flick through Mum & Dad’s albums and it feels so wonderful to create something that echoes this! If you are a creature of structure and uniformity I apologise for the sloppy scanning!!
While we were warming up in Morellis we took a few snaps to remember the day this ‘blast from the past’ camera arrived. I was very much playing today to see what it can do and look forward to using it for a few more things soon!
What do you think? Tempted to get off digital and have some real instant fun!!?
