Oh, how much of a ‘treat day’ today was. I hopped onto a train into the city to hook up with my cousin and spent the day doing photo-related touristy things. We headed straight to The Shard to see if we could buy tickets around 4.30pm so we could see the city in a lot of different lights (geeks, Über-geeks!) and we were in luck. Safe in the knowledge that we had tickets, we popped on the tube up to the lomography store off Carnaby Street. Things got a little bit out of hand with my shopping basket in there….more on this later once the films have been developed (you can see some of my antics over on Instagram)! We went to Boyd’s Brassarie for Afternoon Tea and swooned over their beautiful lights and then it was time to go back to enjoy The view from The Shard - and boy did we enjoy it and I hope you do enjoy these shots too!
I feel so serene after this experience. Granted, we spent a long time up in the sky, but there was no pressure to leave. The staff team were lovely and I was so chuffed that there was no time limit on your sky-bound adventure which meant we picked a time that straddled the afternoon golden hour which melted into sunset and then saw the evening creep in and London light up. I didn’t do a lot of talking up there, John and I didn’t discuss our ideas, we just sat, we were just ‘being’. I am not really sure what I was thinking about, it was a moment of time suspended as we were suspended at this spectacular height. We all need time out and sometimes soaring with the birds and watching chaos ensue below is enough to drift from reality and it was magical!
I had my Lensbaby in my kit bag today as I have always wanted to try it out from up on high, down onto a cityscape. I love the augmented perspective it gives and as you’ll see in a minute, the effect at night is just amazing!
